Katy I could write pages about how and why Drew McConnell is amazing. Unfortunately, this has to be succinct. Helsinki is a favorite of his projects because the very nature of the music is sincere and substantive. The mostly acoustic instrumentals amplify the sentiment of the lyrics while still providing interesting, intricate, and balanced layers of sound. Reminds me of when more albums felt like your life.. As if the songs were your thoughts put to music. Could not recommend it highly enough. Favorite track: Gone.

Ordinary Man 04:34
In a palace of ice, this side of paradise Its a long way out, a short way in For all the sad young men With a taste for irony, and the offshore piracy Oh benediction, we were slammed By the beautiful and damned I may bend, I may bite I may buckle in the night Slow my hand, because I am Just an ordinary man Holding on, because things will get easier If I sing this song when I'm delirious For a day on a throne, he resolved to walk alone So he ploughed a field of sound Until his blood spilt on the ground And the tales he was told, made his blood run hot then cold Winter dreams, jelly beans The camel's back and majesty Holding on, because things will get easier If I sing this song when I'm delirious Oh brother keep holding on Because things will get easier If you sing this song when you're delirious Oh russet witch, Mr Ick, keep them coming fast and thick The freshest boy, a perfect life And tender is the night Now I won't bend, I won't bite I won't buckle in the night Slow my hand, because I am Just an ordinary man

Overtones of Sierra Leone Meat hanging from the bone, now that I've let you go All of my LPs scratched & lost the thread All the sleeves are torn & scattered on the bed Everyone around has been awake for days Peace & order here just seems to slip away As I hear the words I scrawl them on the wall The growing fear within to hear the hammer fall I'm not in denial, I know I'm in the red And all the peaceful loving hippies want me dead Overtones of Sierra Leone Meat hanging from the bone, now that I've let you go Waiting for the answers to your dreams Its never quite as it seemed before intruders & their schemes Never quite as it seems Change has come around like an unwelcome guest My patience panicing, I hold it to my chest Though it occurs to me not to put it to the test As I know this frame of mind I'm in is dangerous at best Overtones of Sierra Leone Meat hanging from the bone, now that I've let you go Waiting for the answers to your dreams Its never quite as it seemed before intruders & their schemes Never quite as it seems Overtones of Sierra Leone Meat hanging from the bone, now that I've let you go

In another light your eyes don't seem to follow me As you walk between the walls and leave behind a part of you In another life you time stretches out ahead of me And the sun shines through the door casting shadows on your frame I'm passing out again As you roam a haunted palace you are radiant and blind You echo out of time around the corners of my mind Hey old friend of mine you echo out of time On a summer's night the same sky is hanging over me And the moments by your side are sleeping in the sea I'm passing out again As you roam a haunted palace you are radiant and blind You echo out of time around corners of my mind Hey old friend of mine you echo out of time You echo out of time.

My mind is of the imploding kind You'll see, my cloud is like a tree It feels good, to be misunderstood If it didn't belong to me Then I'm not out of my tree Wouldn't you agree? I don't mind people who stare at my kind Eyeliner is always a sure sign And I sure would Feels good, to be misunderstood If it didn't belong to me Then I'm not out of my tree Wouldn't you agree? If its all the same with you I'll be on my way I have other things to do with my day If its all the same with you...

Say you’ll follow me through the good times I bet you will Save a part of it when the world stands still The purest place on Earth The very last boy alive Face to face with the man who sold your time Now blow his mind

The Red Baron is hiding behind a cloud And you’re Snoopy, a foodbowl on your head A red hankerchief, hanging from a stick Or in the back of cars that make you sick Oh sit down son, I’ll tell you what you’re worth Oh sit sown son, come floating back to Earth A broken orchard, the summer lasts for years Behind the sundial, the elven disappear And from the old oak, a tire as aswing hangs low The noble wolfhound is gentle with the crow Oh sit down son, I’ll tell you what you’re worth Oh sit sown son, come floating back And give me a wide birth In between the dirt and the pine In between what’s fucked and what’s fine An errant light bulb burning at your feet Take revenge on a kite-eating tree The boy with the blanket who pats birds on the head He told you he dreams of flying, and this is what you said Oh sit down son, I’ll tell you what you’re worth Oh sit sown son, come floating back to Earth

Gone 04:13
If there was ever a call here to cause alarm I’d like a nuclear bomb I’m here with the Prozac & broken arm Third time’s a charm On the top of the world in a surgical gown And it’s a long way down See I’m a believer with glandular fever Council to the crown But if it was up to me though I could just disappear And be gone, gone, gone I wouldn’t have to tell anyone I could just up and go As you’re flicking the glass I’m at the water’s edge Still pitching a wedge Are you seeing a pattern, are you splitting the atom Down here on the farm Everything’s fine, yes I’m feeling ok Don’t look at me that way See I’m a deceiver with a lacrimal gland I can cry on demand But if it was up to me though I could just disappear And be gone, gone, gone I wouldn’t have to tell anyone I could just up and go
8.
You’re at the party and so you feel inclined To up the ante and have another line Headstrong, you’re punching at the air Always tarde, always debonair Before long in the corner of your mind A sister that you left behind A brother, the last one of a pair You say your goodbyes & leave to take the air And you’re uptight as you try & catch your breath It’s no crime to think about your health High time, but there’s always something else But you owe it to yourself You owe it to yourself And no one else can make it happen When you were younger you met a clever man Who helped you to formulate a plan Now the plan weighs heavy on the shelf As you focus on anybody else And its uptight, its hard to weigh your worth It’s no crime its for your mental health High time, but there’s always something else You owe it to yourself You owe it to yourself and no one else
9.
Spitting 01:30
If you feel inclined to spit in my eye F.Y.I, I’m not a pacifist & don’t see why we should all get along A decent guy, I make no apologies & don’t see why we should all get along It may sound wrong but a well place bomb could allay, do away with you all When in doubt & patience runs out An affray, have a brawl, kill ‘em all So if you feel inclined to spit in my eye…

New Pair 03:14
He sets up his page like he had paid someone To curry belief And it only seemed to worsen That’s what he done He said he ain’t gonna work for no one else to choose A mile in his shoes He says now I need a new pair son And that’s you done He held out a map to the new friend he found Who sighed with relief And said I’ve come for the ransom, and your harpoon gun And he looks at the world through anaesthesic shades With scratch on the lens He says now I need a new pair son, then I’ll be a new person And then that’s you done

On The Coast of Silence is where I spent my present tense I needed a little time to myself And now I learnt to drive, I volunteered for shifting gears The most alive I’d felt for years Then a glorious sound fills my ears And I know what you are So I returned to the rock For such a little place it seems to have taken so much And from the dust to dust With eager hands that reach for love, that reach for love With a glorious sound, it fills our ears And we know what you are Memories of when the world was new & you were tumbling And everything that was, it was for you Dissembling, hysterical, you never can forget the sighs Of your mother’s heart and of her eyes And oh! her cries Of pain With a glorious sound that fills our ears And we know what you are A glorious sound fills my ears And I know what you are What you are What you are What you are

Cats & Birds 03:46
Don’t talk to me about love You only hear what you want to hear Don’t talk to me about love You only see what you want to see Then the cats start dragging the birds down from the trees Don’t talk to me about faith You only hear what you want to hear Don’t talk to me about trust You only see what you want to see Then the cats start dragging the birds down from the trees Don’t talk to me about music You only hear what you want to hear Don’t talk to me about art You only see what you want to see Then the cats start dragging the birds down from the trees
